Seahawks fall against Tampa

October 5th — The Seattle Seahawks were coming off an exciting divisional win over the Arizona Cardinals and returned to Lumen Field on Sunday to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Heading into the matchup, many expected a defensive battle, as both teams have been among the top-ranked defenses in the 2025 season. Instead, fans got an offensive shootout.

Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield combined for 720 passing yards with only 10 incompletions between them. Darnold had an impressive outing, completing 28 of 34 passes for 341 yards and four touchdowns. However, the defining moment came late in the fourth quarter when Darnold threw a costly interception, giving Mayfield and the Buccaneers prime field position at Seattle’s 35-yard line. Tampa Bay’s Chase McLaughlin capitalized, drilling the game-winning field goal and handing the Bucs a road victory.

Seattle entered the game missing key defensive players, including Julian Love and Devon Witherspoon. The absence of those starters showed, as the Hawks struggled to contain Mayfield’s offense—especially on third downs.

AJ Barner caught two touchdown passes, while Jaxon Smith-Njigba led the receiving corps with eight receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown.

The Seahawks now sit at 3–2 on the season, with a 1–2 record at home.

They’ll look to bounce back next Sunday on the road in Jacksonville.

Until next time,
