My summer Sports tbr
I’m a big reader, love reading all genres, all authors, and everything. Over the Summer of 2023, I read One Life by Megan Rapinoe and it immediately earned a spot in my books to recommend to people. With my growing interest in learning about athletes' journeys, specifically female athletes, my TBR has grown.
This is my list of books I want to read:
Messi v. Ronaldo: One Rivalry, Two GOATS, and the Era That Remade the World’s Game. by Joshua Robinson and Jonathan Clegg.
This is my current sports read and while I don’t necessarily find myself as big of a follower of the men’s game, looking and reading about two of the biggest names in men’s football is interesting and enlightening. This book written by Joshua Robinson and Jonathan Clegg focuses on the intertwined careers and legacies that the two stars have had, examining how their rivalry has grown from a personal competition to one that is a household staple of “Messi or Ronaldo”
Under the Lights and in the Dark by Gwendolyn Oxenham
This book follows the lives of professional football players around the world, looking at the underfunded teams and leagues to sold-out stadiums. Written by Gwendolyn Oxenham who is an award-winning filmmaker and journalist telling the stories of players.
The National Team: The Inside Story of the Women Who Changed Soccer by Caitlin Murray
This book features interviews with USWNT legends like Alex Morgan and Brandi Chastain as well as highlighting the history of the USWNT from its formation in the 1980s to the winning of the 2019 World Cup. While talking about the successes of leagues like the NWSl, it also highlights the challenges off the field.
A Woman's Game: The Rise, Fall, and Rise Again of Women's Soccer by Suzanne Wrack
This book follows the Women's game and the changing attitudes, international growth, and increased professionalism. Written by veteran journalist Suzanne Wrack who more recently wrote You Have the Power with Lioness captain Leah Williamson.
