UW Volleyball makes history on montlake
In August 2023, the Nebraska Huskers made history, shattering the record for the largest attendance at a volleyball game. "Broke" is an understatement—an astounding 92,000 fans gathered to watch Nebraska play on August 30. This record-setting moment sparked a movement, drawing increased attention to women’s volleyball and college athletics, a momentum that arrived in full force on Montlake this November.
November 9, 2024, marked another historic night for women’s volleyball, this time at the University of Washington. On Saturday, the Huskies hosted #2 Nebraska for the first-ever sold-out volleyball event at Alaska Airlines Arena, with 9,768 fans filling the stands to cheer on the Dawgs. This season has been significant for the Huskies, as they play their first year in the Big Ten, bringing an impressive 18-5 record into their matchup against the Huskers.
While Husky fans might not have the season they hoped for in football, the university has plenty to celebrate across athletics. Showing up for women’s sports is essential—it gives athletes a platform to pursue their dreams and provides fans with role models they can relate to. And truly, women’s volleyball games at UW are an incredible experience that’s hard to capture in words.
Though the match didn’t go the Huskies’ way, with Nebraska taking the night 3-0, it represented a tremendous step forward in the promotion of women’s sports at both the collegiate and professional levels. Let’s keep this momentum going! The Huskies take on the Bruins at home on the 13th at 7:00 p.m. and again this Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
Go Dawgs! Support and invest in women’s sports.
